Your funds are recorded on the networks, not inside the app. The app keeps the keys derived from your recovery phrase, so restoring the same phrase on another phone brings back the same accounts, the same addresses and the same balances. Nothing has to be moved.
Before you start
- Make sure you can read your recovery phrase from paper — or that you have enough shares of your split backup, and the wallet password you had when you made the backup.
- Keep the old phone until the new one works.
Restoring
- 01Install Smartable on the new phone.
- 02Choose I already have a wallet and enter your recovery phrase — or Restore a split backup and supply your shares.
- 03Set a password for this phone when the app asks.
- 04Wait while Smartable is Looking for your accounts. It checks the supported networks for accounts you have used, which can take a little while.
- 05Before you rely on it, compare an address with one you know from the old phone.
A recovery phrase can have 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 words. Capitalisation and extra spaces are ignored. If a phrase that was typed correctly opens an empty wallet, read Smartable does not use a 13th word.
One phrase per wallet
Every wallet in the app has its own recovery phrase — an Agent Wallet included. Restore each one you want on the new phone. One phrase does not bring back the others.
What the phrase does not bring back
- Hardware-wallet accounts. Add them again from the Ledger, Trezor or Keystone. Their keys were never in Smartable.
- Imported private keys. A key imported on its own is not part of your recovery phrase. Import it again from wherever you keep it.
- Watch-only addresses. Add them again by address.
- Lists and settings kept on the phone: the address book, templates, hidden assets, custom networks and RPC endpoints, which networks are checked, and the record of addresses you have paid — so the first send to each recipient is marked as a first-time send again.
Token approvals are different: they live on the network. An allowance you granted still stands on the new phone, even though its Token approvals list starts empty. See token approvals.
When the new phone works
Once the new phone shows your balances, remove the wallet from the old one under Settings → Danger zone.
Never type your recovery phrase into anything but the Smartable app, and never on a phone somebody else set up for you.
What the app shows
- “I already have a wallet”
- “Restore a split backup”
- “Looking for your accounts...”
Security note
Never share your recovery phrase, private key, password or device PIN. Smartable will never ask for them or ask you to sign a transaction to “verify” or “recover” your wallet.
