I lost my recovery phrase

Nobody can recover it for you — the phrase never reaches Smartable. If the wallet still opens on your phone, write the phrase down again now. If it does not, a split backup and its password are the only other way back.

Smartable has no account and keeps no copy of your keys on a server. Nobody at Smartable can reset, recover or send you a phrase, because there is nothing on our side to read. Anyone who offers to restore it for you is trying to take it.

What matters now is whether the wallet still opens on your phone.

If the wallet still opens

You are not locked out, and you have one job.

  1. 01Open Settings → Security → Recovery phrase.
  2. 02Enter your password, and write the twelve words on paper, in order, by hand.
  3. 03Read them back against the screen, word by word. Nothing checks them for you here.
  4. 04Consider a split backup as well, so one lost sheet cannot do this again.

If the wallet opens with your PIN or fingerprint but you no longer know the password, go to Settings → Security → Change password and choose Forgot your current password?. On the phone where you set up quick unlock, your PIN or fingerprint can create a new password — then show the phrase and write it down. See I forgot my password.

Do not photograph the words or take a screenshot, and do not keep them in notes, email, chat or a cloud document.

If the wallet no longer opens

Look for the other ways back:

  • A split backup — enough of its shares, and the wallet password you had when you made the backup. The share kept on a lost phone is gone with it, so count only the others.
  • Another phone where the same wallet is still installed and opens.

If neither exists, the funds cannot be reached by anyone. That is the cost of self-custody, and it is the same property that means nobody can freeze or take your wallet.

What the app shows

  • “Show the words again, behind your password”
  • “Forgot your current password?”

Security note

Never share your recovery phrase, private key, password or device PIN. Smartable will never ask for them or ask you to sign a transaction to “verify” or “recover” your wallet.
